If you’ve read the ACK•Now white paper here or this fact sheet here, you know that investor-owned short-term rentals — 80% of which are owned and managed by off-island entities — are having a very real and negative impact on the year-round community. The goal is to make it possible for investors to pay their fair share of the costs associated with this impact so that year-round residents can compete for available housing on a level playing field. Fortunately, Mass General Law offers a number of remedies that local municipalities can enact now.
